I greet all current and prospective partners of the Jimmy Mac Foundation (JMF) with the Swahili salutation, “Jambo”, (similar to “hello” in English) as I and a team of 9 other missioners recently returned from an awesome 10-day mission trip to Kenya, Africa. It was a spiritually refreshing expedition and a “mountaintop” experience for me as we witnessed our Kenyan initiatives coming to fruition. For a summary of the trip, including photos, go to jimmymacfoundation.org/kenya-2023.

Educational Assistance

We’re excited as this year’s JMF “Making A Difference” Scholarship Program has 14 talented high school seniors who have applied. Our goal is to raise $25K and we are confident that with your support, we’ll be able to award scholarships to all applicants. The JMF’s commitment to these young people doesn’t end when we distribute the awards because we stay in touch with many of our past awardees. It is very rewarding to hear how the students are excelling in and outside of the classroom.

We continue to be faithful partners and to provide financial assistance to many other scholarship programs throughout the calendar year. Below are 30 second JMF Scholarship video shout outs from Jasmine Clark and Jacob Roberston.

Local/Global Outreach – Home Builds

2023 brings a more solid partnership than ever with the North Central Georgia Affiliate Habitat for Humanity organization. We will be co-sponsoring 3-4 home builds and I am proud to share that in January we moved from being a sponsor, to my having the honor of becoming a member of the Habitat for Humanity Board of Directors. On March 18th, it was a beautiful day in the neighborhood when we celebrated the official kickoff of the Pierre Family’s home build with their “First Nail” ceremony.
If you are interested in home build volunteer opportunities, we would love to increase our participation especially with teens, ages 16 and over. Please contact us @ jimmymacfoundation5928@gmail.com
Around the world in Kenya, Africa, we have pledged to sponsor 3 or more home builds for widows and their families. Our team was blessed to actively participate in the build, home dedication and celebration of Ms. Beatrice’s new home while we were there in February. A big shout out of thanks to my fraternity brothers of the Alpharetta/Smyrna Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. for their sponsorship of a home for Ms. Theresa and her sons.
Outreach – Nutrition
It was truly gratifying to see the fruits of our greenhouse investments in Kenya. With at least one greenhouse sponsorship by mid-year and an additional one slated for installation by year-end, we hope to impact the devastating problem of food insecurity within these communities by teaching them how to produce their own food vs. simply receiving food donations. Life for Children Ministry has plotted out physical space for 10 more greenhouses and the JMF will be an active participant in the growth of this self-sustaining food initiative.
In our own backyard, we provided nutritional and volunteer support to those impacted by the tornadoes that hit Griffin, GA earlier this year and recently provided support to assist with the recovery efforts in Amory, MS. Realizing that food and housing insecurities are alive and well across the globe, the Jimmy Mac Foundation has specific plans during 2023 to enhance our financial and volunteer support to various food banks and other like-minded partners in the metro Atlanta area and across the United States.
Our 2023 theme, ‘The Courage to Do More’, is grounded in Joshua 1:9: “Have I commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be terrified, do not be discouraged, for the Lord your GOD will be with you, wherever you go.” Though we continue to live in challenging times, my prayer is that your ongoing support will embolden our spirit of servanthood locally, nationally, and globally. The JMF sets our goals high and walks with confidence knowing that with GOD, your partnership and generosity, we will achieve and succeed in all our endeavors. None of this would be possible without you, our partners and we say a resounding, “Asante”, derived from the Kiswahili word meaning “THANK YOU!”
Peace, Blessings and To GOD be the glory!
Jimmy
